William Howarth, Eb Bass
William joined the newly formed Rolls Royce Junior Band as a 15 year old in 1976, progressing to the senior band on 3rd cornet two year's later - having played continuously ever since, this makes him the longest serving member of the band.
William dabbled (badly) on Soprano Cornet for a while but in a "road to Damascus moment" having gone to see the brilliant Alan Wycherley in concert, made the sensible decision to leave Soprano to the experts and go for something " a little bigger"
A brief stop off on Baritone ensued but finally William made it to the engine room of any band - the Bass section, where over the years he has had the pleasure of being slightly behind the beat to a number of eminent conductors.
It's fair to say in the time William has been with the band he's seen many ups and downs and it's often been a struggle to fit the band in with work commitments but with his son Robert now playing along side him keeping him on his toes, he's enjoying his banding more than ever.
