Rolls Royce Derby Band took part in the 5th Bolsover District Council Festival of Brass this weekend. It was the band’s first outing at an entertainments contest and band were pre drawn to play off the number one spot. This meant that the band were going to open the whole competition on a 9 a.m. kick off, which meant arriving at 8 a.m. at the venue. For some it was the first time they had seen 8 a.m. on Sunday morning for several months.
We played a twenty minute programme designed to entertain and also highlight the strengths of the band. The programme was as follows:
Te Deum Prelude Charpentier
Buster Strikes back Morrison Cornet Soloist Andrew Sharpe
Be Still Evans
Two Imps – Xylophone Duet Alford Jeff Shaw and John Watson
Rock Music 3 Richards
The band played a solid musical performance to one adjudicator and six audience members (well it was Sunday morning and tipping down with rain). After playing the band retired to listen to the other bands in the section or to have a well earned cup of tea. After three hours and some very fine performances and soloists the results were as follows:
1st Rolls Royce Derby Band
2nd Ireland Colliery Band
3rd Hucknall and Linby Band
